Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

Growing to know Jesus Christ at a heart level is the greatest pursuit of life. As Jesus put it: “THIS is eternal life.” We tend to think of eternal life as never-ending life. But that’s not how Jesus defined it. According to his definition, ‘Eternal life is growing in our knowing of the Father and the Son.’

Nothing matters more. As the Apostle Paul testified, “Everything is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord,” (Philippians 3:8a).

It is one thing to know about Jesus. It is another thing to know him.

It is one thing to know about what he’s done. It is another thing to know who he is.

It is one thing to know his acts and accomplishments. It is another thing to know his thoughts and motivations.

Do I know Christ Jesus? Do I really want to know him? Am I willing to invest the time, immersing myself in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, reflecting on what his many names say about him, and listening to the confirming voice of his Spirit witness within me?

To know him is to love him.

To love him is to trust him.

To trust him is to enjoy him.

To enjoy him is to worship him.

To worship him is to become like him.

Nothing matters more. THIS is eternal life.
